Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina
Jolie Voight, (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American
actor and director renowned for her sex appeal and edginess and also for her
work in the field of humanitarian aid. Jolie, the daughter and actor Jon
Voight, was raised in New York. After her early years, she moved to Los
Angeles, where she played the role of mentally ill patient in Girl, interrupted
(1999). She was a student at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for
two years, and was then accepted into Beverly Hills High School. She then
studied acting at New York University. She also performed in theater
productions and modelled for music videos. It was in Hackers (1995) when Jolie
got to know Jonny Lee Miller, a British actor (married 1997; divorced 1999).
The film didn't find an audience, and neither did several subsequent films.
Jolie was the segregationist spouse of Alabama's governor, garnering the
attention of many in 1997. The actress later won a Golden Globe Award. She played
the role of a supermodel who struggles with drug addiction in the HBO film Gia
in 1999. The performance won her many awards, including a Golden Globe Award
and Screen Actors Guild Award. Following her Oscar-winning performance in Girl,
Interrupted, Jolie played in Pushing Tin, a comedy featuring John Cusack, Billy
Bob Thornton and in 2003 she got divorced. Jolie was the carjacker's wife
(Nicolas Cage), in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. In the following years, she
adopted an accent that resembled a British accent and began learning street
fighting and kickboxing to be able to play the characters in Lara Croft Tomb
Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life 2003. In 2004, she
played the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander and also
starred opposite Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of
Tomorrow, a science-fiction thriller set in 1930s New York City. Both films
failed at the box office however Jolie had a smash in Mr. & Mrs. Smith
(2005), where she played an assassin posing as a typical housewife. While
making the film she was introduced to Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
